ben + ashley | colorado wedding photographer

I'm not even sure where to begin with this wedding, but I suppose I can start by saying that it was one of my most favorite weddings to photograph, to date. The wedding was small and intimate, and took place early in the morning. So, let me take this moment to say that I never understood morning weddings--how does everyone have time to get ready??

But Ben + Ashley's wedding was a game changer for me. We started at 7am with hair and makeup. No one ran late. No one messed around. No one got too drunk to take photos. No one was sweating profusely, and I wasn't battling harsh sun during the ceremony.

It was...perfect.

I first met Ashley online, but I didn't know her all that well. She was a fellow photographer in a group forum, so my interactions with her were limited to what she posted and I replied to, or vice versa.

One day, she came online to tell our group that she was a little annoyed because her "dream wedding photographer" hadn't replied to any of her inquiries, or had stood her up (I can't remember now). At that point, a few people chimed in, and suggested the fact that I travel.

I can't imagine that I was Ashley's "dream wedding photographer" by any means, lol, but I told her that if she wanted to talk, she could email me. I certainly wouldn't stand her up, or fail to answer her emails. ;)

I think she literally booked me a day later. Lol.

And I am so, so glad she did. She and Ben were basically a dream to work for, and it's always nice to photograph a wedding when you feel like there's a personal connection.

They were wed in the woods of Augusta, GA, and they celebrated with their family and friends near the lake. Ben not only exchanged vows and rings with Ashley, but he also read vows to her daughter, and put a tiny little ring on her finger (which, coming from a girl whose stepfather has played the only fatherly role in her life, this was by far one of the most touching moments to witness). They served BBQ and had an ice cream station, and when I asked Ashley if she would be willing to take a dip in the lake with her dress on, she didn't even bat an eye.

The entire party was over by early afternoon, and each of us headed to our respective airports to catch flights. My only regret was not having more time to spend with the two of them, because I could tell they were good, fun people.

Ashley, thank you so, so much for trusting in me. I hope these photos are everything you wanted, and more. Your day was so special, and so full of love--I was honored to be a part of it. Best of luck to you and Ben, and I will catch you the next time I'm in The Peach State.
